Exotic Mushroom Growing!
A group of outdoor friendly pupils have recently decided to make use of some recently fallen trees – to grow mushrooms on! And not any old mushrooms, but a variety of exotic edible mushrooms, some of which have medicinal qualities. The children measured, drilled, innoculated and sealed all the branches with beeswax before laying them to ‘do their thing’ in our willow woodland near the pond. They’ll also need to demonstrate some patience too – if the growing is successful, we’ll have to wait between 12 and 18 months for the mushrooms to ‘fruit’!
